Phenomenological translations
Phenomenological Translations, 2024
Immersive Installation, multimedia
The full room is viewed as one installation piece. It represents explorations into the artist’s Nigerian heritage and Yoruba and Igbo cultures. The work was created by way of an ethnographic methodology of movement, distortions, interpretations, and translations of Nigerian artifacts, religion, and architecture. Within the room there is an activated presence, an otherworldly portal for connection with ancestors, which is created through sculpture, video projection on to cotton silk free hanging on steel rods, and sound. The installation interconnects Afro Futurism with Orisha and Alusi spiritual references.
Exhibited as part of a 7 person group show, Incandescent, 2024 MFA Thesis Exhibition, at the Art Design & Architecture & Design Museum, UC Santa Barbara. May 17th- June 9th 2024
